Workpod 9: collective imagination

World War II Air Force Memorial
Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah 1994

This winning entry for the four-day Air Force Memorial design charrette was the product of great teamwork and collaborative imagination. Our design celebrates flight, both of the pilots and their souls. The circulation takes visitors from the extroverted museum through the grounds and under the road via a tunnel that leads to a reflecting pool and the World War II Overseas Missions Memorial, and ultimately to the historic chapel that was the pilots’ last stop before embarking on their missions. The design connects people to the sights and sounds of the active Hill Air Force Base while encouraging contemplation of the pilots’ sacrifice through careful landscaping, use of Air Force imagery, and symbolic allusions to flight, both physical and spiritual.

Team Members were: Patti Christensen, Ryan Coover, Kenner Kingston, and Kayla Sintz.
